A Message from Troy

May 2025

Dear HopeQuest Family,

All I wanted was for our dog to stop barking. But sometimes, the path to what we want isn’t what we expect. Let me explain.

A few weeks ago, I found myself awake in the middle of the night, trying to fall back asleep. But I couldn’t—because our dog was in the backyard barking non-stop. Our son, who works odd hours, had let her out, and she promptly went to the back corner of the yard and started barking incessantly. He tried to quiet her, but she wouldn’t stop. I tried as well, with no success.

All I wanted was some peace and quiet. Eventually, I walked out to the backyard and chased away the raccoon she had cornered in a tree. No amount of treats or yelling was going to calm her down. The only solution was to remove the actual cause of the barking. That’s what dogs do. When something out of the ordinary is happening in their world, they bark. Once the root cause was gone, the barking stopped and my night returned to normal.

Too often, we approach addiction and other unwanted behaviors the same way. We try to silence the symptoms without addressing the root cause. At HopeQuest, our mission is to identify and work through what’s actually driving the unhealthy behaviors. Real change comes when we get to the heart of the issue — that’s where true freedom lies. Let’s continue praying for one another to remain focused on the root cause of our struggles!

One of the things I love most about HopeQuest is knowing we have devoted prayer warriors like you who stand behind our ministry. This month, I would be especially grateful if you would join me in prayer over a few important matters:
  • Match-It May Campaign: Our Match-It May campaign is in full swing, and we’re nearly halfway to our $50,000 goal, an amount that will be matched by a small group of HopeQuest supporters. CLICK HERE to make a donation.

    • Prayer Request: Join us in praying that God would move within the HopeQuest family, inspiring generous hearts to help us meet the full $50K match and extend hope to more men and families.
  • High-Intensity Outpatient Program (HIOP): We recently launched our High-Intensity Outpatient Program (HIOP), created to provide greater flexibility for men who need our Christ-centered, clinically effective care but aren’t able to commit to a 90-day residential stay. CLICK HERE for more information about HIOP.
    • Prayer Request: Pray for the men who are beginning their recovery journey through HIOP — that God would meet them in powerful ways as they pursue freedom while balancing daily responsibilities. Pray also for the wisdom, strength, and discernment of our team, as we walk alongside each client in this new level of care.
Both of these efforts play a vital role in fulfilling our mission to help men and families impacted by addiction experience God’s plan for freedom and hope. Your partnership through prayer, support, and generosity fuels the work we do — thank you for joining us on the journey.

Grateful,
