Remembering What God Has Done

Dear Friend,
It is easy for me to remember what needs to be done. Unfinished work, unanswered questions, and concerns about tomorrow have a way of holding my attention. Remembering what God has already done requires intentional effort.
Perhaps you can relate.
Three weeks ago, during a men’s trip to Idaho, I had an opportunity to pause. Sitting in the folding chair pictured above, overlooking the Snake River, I took in the sheer beauty of the landscape before me. As I sat there, I wrote these words: The God who created this amazing and majestic place is the same God who created me!
That simple truth gave me much to consider. The evidence of His power and care stretched out before me, inviting me to turn my attention toward Him. The One who formed this breathtaking landscape also knows me and cares about my concerns.
I have experienced meaningful reminders of His faithfulness much closer to home, too. Last year, I shared a story from our campus that continues to stay with me. As part of their recovery journey at HopeQuest, men in our residential program build an altar to commemorate the Lord’s transforming work in their lives. These places carry deep meaning. When former clients return, visiting their altar is often a priority.
A conversation with one man about his altar prompted me to stop by on my way back to the office. Knowing something of the trauma he had endured and the years he had spent seeking relief through addiction, I was deeply moved. His altar marked a place in his story where he had begun to experience freedom and hope.
It also gave me an opportunity to pause and recognize God’s work.
I need those reminders. When something feels uncertain or overwhelming, my attention can narrow until the problem is all I see. I begin planning, managing, and trying to carry everything myself. Meanwhile, evidence of God’s loving care is right in front of me, waiting to be noticed.
I am learning that remembering His faithfulness helps me trust Him with all that remains unfinished.
This does not mean the hard things suddenly become easy. We can be thankful and still grieve. We can recognize God’s provision while facing questions we cannot answer. Gratitude makes room for us to acknowledge His goodness in the middle of an unresolved story.
As we move into the fall season, I invite you to take a few moments to remember:
- When has God met you in the midst of difficulty?
- Who has He brought into your life to offer encouragement?
- Where can you see growth that might have gone unnoticed along the way?
Consider writing it down or sharing it with someone. Reflecting on His goodness can renew your courage to face today’s challenges.
When I think about all that God has done through HopeQuest, I am filled with gratitude. Every person who comes through our doors has a story. Walking with men and their families as they face challenges and witnessing God’s work in their lives is a privilege.
Your support helps make this ministry possible. Every prayer, word of encouragement, and generous gift allows us to care for men and families seeking freedom and hope. Thank you for being part of the HopeQuest family.
May we take time this month to reflect on God’s goodness and find renewed confidence in His faithful love.
Grateful…
