As we reflect on 2025, one theme rises to the surface time and again: Real change happens when we become willing to dive deeper. A Mother’s Love Turns Loss Into Legacy

Grief has a way of reshaping a mother’s heart. For Penny, the loss of her son, Micah, in November 2024 marked the deepest sorrow she had ever known. It also became the beginning of an unexpected act of purpose.

Micah, a HopeQuest alumnus, shared the message of recovery to all who knew him. In the months following his passing, Penny faced a choice no one anticipates: to allow grief to overwhelm her, or to let love shape what came next.

With courage and compassion, she chose the latter.

In December 2025, Penny contacted HopeQuest CEO Troy Haas with a desire to contribute to our Building Hope 2025 year-end giving campaign in Micah’s honor. During their conversation, Troy conveyed the news of a generous matching opportunity tied to the campaign. Moved by the potential impact, Penny carried the message forward by reaching out to those in her support circle.

What followed was extraordinary.

In just a few days, Penny and those who rallied around her raised more than $26,000 to support men and families seeking healing and freedom. What began as one mother’s desire to honor her son became a collective expression of hope and generosity.

Today, Penny continues to honor Micah’s life by offering encouragement, advocacy, and a reminder that no one has to walk through grief or struggle alone. Because of her love and willingness to act, his legacy continues to impact others in ways far beyond what we could ask or imagine.
